Show Background

They say, you can tell a lot about a person with the car that he drives.  Whether it be the latest sub-compact car or a well-restored classic, the automobile is a statement of taste and distinction.  Seeing the growing trend towards cars as rolling works of art, The Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) takes the theme of “Imagination in Motion” this year.  Held at the sprawling facilities of The World Trade Center in Pasay City, MIAS 2008 opens its doors on April 3, 2008 with over 20,000 square meters of exhibition space—making it the biggest motoring event this country has ever seen.

As the only major motoring event for the first half of 2008, MIAS 2008 continues to be the venue of choice for launching new cars.  This year, no less than 15 new models will make their public debut including several new car brands.  Being the only major show to be held during the summer months, MIAS continues to have family-friendly events to cater to just about anyone.  World-renowned precision driver Russ Swift returns with a bolder show behind the wheel of the all-new Subaru Impreza WRX STi.  Contests, raffles, fashion shows as well as test drives both on- and off-road are just some of the numerous activities lined-up.  Seeing the growing trend towards car customization and restoration, MIAS is premiering its Classic Car and Custom Car Competition with special celebrities serving as judges.

The Manila International Auto Show began with a simple objective: to be a world-class exhibition venue for the Philippine automotive market.  Through the years, MIAS has done just that.  In 2005, the show broke all molds with the public debut of the Ford Focus.  In 2006, a record 78,000 people witnessed the unveiling of the Honda Civic, Hyundai Santa Fe, Mitsubishi Strada as well as the return of the Jeep brand and the unique Mercedes-Benz F-Cell hydrogen fuel car.  In 2007, 22 brands from 14 different manufacturers showcased their latest offerings including the BMW X3, Chrysler 300C HEMI, Hyundai Veracruz, Honda CR-V, Mazda MX-5 PRHT, Nissan Teana, Mitsubishi Outlander, Endeavor and Pajero, and the Subaru Impreza WRX STi.

The Philippine car industry still has a long way to go before it can recapture its glory days, but every step of the way, The Manila International Auto Show will help make this goal into a reality by helping generate vehicle sales and publicity for the vibrant car industry.  Above all, it is the passion and enthusiasm for all things automotive that pervades all the activities at MIAS.
